H. Lee Lewis is the founding member of HLL Law and has been advising the construction industry for more than 10 years. Lee represents contractors, design professionals, and project owners in commercial and public works construction matters, providing clients with legal advice driven by a deep understanding of their business.
The construction industry is surrounded by risk, and successful contractors, engineers, and project owners are able to identify, manage and mitigate risks as early as possible. Early and efficient resolution of disputes and conflicts prior to, and during, the construction process is the key to a successful project and portfolio of work, and should be the centerpiece of any effective risk management plan.
Lee provides clients and their project teams with general risk management counsel as well as with pragmatic, plain-language advice specific to the contract/project at issue prior to the first shovel in the ground. This is backed up by ongoing risk assessment and claim management during performance of the work, all aimed towards achieving reasonable and fair business resolutions in order to allow the parties to achieve successful and timely completion of the job.
Lee represents HLL Law’s clients in risk management matters, including contract negotiation, contract/project administration assistance, and claim avoidance/mitigation. And if disputes cannot be avoided, Lee has extensive experience in dispute resolution, including claim preparation, negotiation, mediation, arbitration and litigation, having argued in trial courts throughout Washington State as well as before the Washington and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeal.
Lee also advises HLL Law’s clients on other types of issues that arise within any successful business: employment law, regulatory compliance, trade secrets/IP, corporate record keeping, business succession and many other matters.
Lee believes a good attorney should be a "value add" to the process by helping HLL Law’s clients determine the best overall business solutions in the real world, and he brings this philosophy to all his dealings with clients.
